FLWR is a floral design studio based in Byron Bay and Brisbane, creating artful floral design for weddings and events. Our practice is shaped by an enduring wonder for the natural world, articulated in lockstep with contemporary visual design. Paying close attention to seasonality, materials, and colour, we explore how flowers can bring vitality to modern design contexts while retaining their natural essence.

With over a decade of experience working between New York and Australia, our studio bridges two distinct cultural landscapes. Our work is expressive and spacious; flowers that feel alive. We are endlessly inspired by what emerges when modern design sensibilities meet with the wildness of nature, and work closely with clients who share this sensitivity.

About Em

Through design, principal designer Emily Henttonen invites clients into a closer conversation with nature, encouraging flowers to be experienced as living expressions of celebration. Informed by a background in art theory, her approach is shaped by a highly trained visual sensibility and years of embodied design thinking. At its core, her work is guided by a simple belief: flowers need not be contorted into art. Nature is art.

Ethos

Our ethos is grounded in a desire to remain close to nature. Through design, we seek reconnection, balancing curiosity and restraint with a reverence for nature’s original form. The following principles shape both our work with flowers, and our connection with clients.

On Collaboration

Our practice begins with collaboration. A shared act of making shaped as much by our clients, as the living materials we’re entrusted with. Through open dialogue and a mutual love of flowers, our projects develop with clarity, care, and ease.

On Colour

We see colour as expression. A reflection of place, season and the overarching visual direction. Nuance takes precedence over saturation; colours are selected for cohesion, balance and impact.

On Form

Built to breathe, our florals encourage movement by following natural growth patterns. We temper abundance with negative space, and flowers with foliage to create work that feels alive, irregular, and of the surroundings.

On Originality

Originality begins with observation. By responding closely to the materials at hand, each composition develops its own character. Shaped by nature’s variation, no two works are ever the same. When nature leads, imitation dissolves.

On Care

Our work is grounded in care, for our clients, our growers, and for the environments that sustains us. We work seasonally, responsibly, and with respect for the people and materials that make each project possible.
